This unit focuses on the use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting tools in denial management. Learners will explore how to track, interpret, and visualize denial data to evaluate process efficiency and identify trends that affect revenue performance. Through case studies and dashboard-based exercises, students will learn how to calculate core metrics such as denial rate, overturn ratio, and lag time, and use these indicators to inform data-driven decisions. By the end of this unit, learners will be equipped to design and communicate performance reports that guide continuous improvement within revenue cycle operations.
Define KPIs used in denial management. Interpret denial rates, overturn ratios, and lag times. Use tools to visualize denial metrics. Analyze denial trends for management reports. Evaluate organizational effectiveness in denial reduction. Develop a quarterly denial KPI report.
The learner will: Define and explain key performance indicators used in denial management, including denial rate, appeal success rate, and resolution time. Interpret denial data to assess process performance and payer behavior trends. Use spreadsheet and dashboard tools to visualize denial metrics for reporting and performance monitoring. Analyze denial trends to identify high-impact causes, workflow bottlenecks, and payer-specific patterns. Evaluate the organization’s denial management efficiency using benchmark data and historical performance comparisons. Develop a comprehensive quarterly denial management KPI report summarizing trends, corrective actions, and improvement strategies.
