After completing this course, learners will be able to understand and explain the stages of the health policy cycle from agenda setting through evaluation and adjustment. Learners will identify and analyze the roles of key stakeholders including government bodies, healthcare providers, patients, advocacy groups, and private sector entities. Learners will distinguish between constitutional law, statutory law, regulatory law, case law, and administrative law as they apply to healthcare. Learners will analyze how national policies and global health organizations influence healthcare systems and understand health diplomacy. Learners will assess how specific policies affect healthcare service delivery, access, and quality. Learners will use governance indicators to evaluate policy effectiveness and success. Learners will develop concise, evidence-based policy summary documents that communicate complex health issues and recommendations to diverse audiences.
While not required, learners benefit from foundational knowledge of healthcare systems and basic understanding of government and institutional structures. Prior exposure to public health concepts or experience working in healthcare settings is helpful but not mandatory. Learners should approach the course with analytical thinking and interest in understanding how policies shape healthcare.
