Description

This self-paced course teaches essential skills for creating effective health interventions addressing unique community needs. Learners explore methods for assessing community health challenges, designing interventions tailored to specific populations' contexts, and collaborating with community stakeholders. The course covers frameworks and tools for designing culturally competent, feasible interventions addressing common and complex health issues like chronic disease, access barriers, and mental health challenges. Emphasis is placed on building partnerships with local organizations, community leaders, and residents, and ensuring interventions are well-received and sustainable. Learners develop practical evaluation skills to measure intervention effectiveness, collect community feedback, and adjust strategies for lasting community health improvements.

Describe the difference between process and outcome evaluation Identify useful indicators for assessing program performance Apply evaluation tools to assess real-world initiatives Analyze performance data using basic methods Evaluate the effectiveness of a population health program Communicate findings to different stakeholder groups Design an evaluation plan for a new community intervention

Learners will understand process evaluation focused on implementation and outcome evaluation measuring effectiveness, recognizing how both provide comprehensive program assessment. Learners will identify and track meaningful indicators reflecting program performance and community health goals. Learners will collect and analyze evaluation data using surveys, interviews, dashboards, and basic statistical methods, and will communicate findings clearly to diverse stakeholders including policymakers, community members, and funders. Learners will design complete evaluation plans including goals, methods, timelines, and budgets ensuring rigorous program assessment and continuous improvement.

Basic understanding of program planning or community health is helpful but not required. Learners benefit from comfort with data and numbers, though advanced statistical skills are not necessary. Prior evaluation experience is valuable but not mandatory. Willingness to engage in critical reflection about program effectiveness and openness to community input are important for success.
