Description

This unit equips learners with the knowledge and practical tools necessary to prepare healthcare organizations for accreditation surveys. It explores the accreditation process, survey methodologies, documentation requirements, and performance improvement measures necessary to maintain continuous compliance readiness. Learners will understand how to interpret accreditation standards, coordinate multi-departmental survey activities, and manage pre-survey and post-survey improvement plans. The course also introduces mock surveys, tracer methodologies, and evidence collection techniques used by accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission (TJC) and DNV-GL Healthcare. Upon completion, learners will be able to lead or support accreditation readiness initiatives, conduct internal assessments, and ensure their organizations demonstrate sustained excellence in quality, safety, and compliance performance.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit, learners will be able to: Describe the accreditation survey process, objectives, and expectations of accrediting agencies. Explain the documentation and evidence required for successful accreditation. Identify common areas of non-compliance and strategies for remediation. Develop survey readiness plans, including timelines, staff preparation, and resource allocation. Conduct mock surveys using tracer methodologies and performance indicators. Coordinate interdepartmental activities to ensure survey compliance and team readiness. Evaluate post-survey feedback and implement continuous improvement actions to maintain accreditation.

Prerequisite: Completion of Units 3.1–3.5 in this module. Familiarity with accreditation standards (Unit 3.3) and auditing principles (Unit 3.4). Practical understanding of organizational leadership and team-based quality improvement from Module 5, Unit 5.2 (Leading Quality Improvement Teams) is beneficial. Rationale: Learners must fully understand regulatory frameworks and auditing processes to effectively prepare organizations for accreditation surveys and manage survey readiness programs.
